Description
I was commissioned to photograph this historical piece of Americana Architecture for the Historical Registrar. Also available in color.
Located in Anaheim California, the nearly 100 year old 1919 Sunkist Packing Plant is now The Anaheim Packing House, a new marketplace and food hall. 42,000-square-foot former Sunkist packing plant, a historic Spanish revival building owned by the city of Anaheim.
After several years and several million dollars in renovations, the dining hall now houses restaurants and shops including a bakery, fresh vegetable stand, juicer, chocolatier, sandwich maker, pizzeria, fish market and more. The eclectic mix of eateries and food a hidden speak-easy bar (I found it).
The two-story building, was neglected for 30 years. The structure’s scuffed maple floors, barn-style sliding doors and single-pane windows have been restored under the watchful eye of a historical consultant. Steel beams, added for support, are painted white to blend in with the structure’s towering exposed wooden trusses. If only other cities could learn preservation of its history and architecture as Anaheim has.
