I was invited with a few other photographers to shoot the restricted areas of the Port of Long Beach and Long Beach Harbor by boat. It was a challenge to say the least; night shooting, no tripod, on a moving boat shooting boats in the water.. Here we have open cranes with the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the far background.
The Port of Long Beach has 6 container terminals. The Port of Long Beach ws the first terminal to equipt shore power, allowing the ships to turn off their diesel engines and plug into electricity. this cut the pollution equivilant to 42,000 car off the So Cal Freeways daily. Middle harbor is under construction in unison with the new bridge replacing the Gerald Desmond to allow the even larger containers. this new Middle Harbor when completed in 2019 will be one of the greenest and most technologically advanced container terminals in the world. It was such a privilege to be part of the photography project.
