Description
As most photographers, especially us in Southern California, you jump, grab the camera and hit the streets when it rains. I decided hit downtown Long Beach to catch some Urban and Street shots. Caught some long exposures of the metro some silhouette shots of pedestrians rushing to their destination in the rain.. Then I saw this wonderfully lit metro stop. After setting up my tripod in the pouring rain next to the metro mall, a SUV illegally parks right in front of it making it impossible to shoot. As I grab my tripod to walk over and request the individual park in a legal spot; out of nowhere comes the flashing lights and am surrounded by the police and Homeland Security. They ask for my ID, view my pictures in my camera and ask why I am shooting in such detail on a dark rainy night in a metro-line area.. "Um, its raining? I'm a photographer, need I say more?" Well it took some sweet talking and a promise to Photoshop out any reference of time and metro car numbers and they give me their blessing to shoot for only 15 minutes. Apparently under the "patriot act", you cannot shoot any metro system and cannot especially show their time and car numbers.. The Homeland security officer was kind enough to move his SUV and hold the bus back for a couple minutes allowing me to capture this shot.. We were all quite please...

Incredible muted touch of color! Amazing nighttime capture and a great story to go with it in the description!

This is my favorite Long Beach so far. Such a presence and mood. The lighting is so delicate but so strong like a modern day Noir. This is hard. Decisions decisions.
