The Densa Whale faces the Gerald Desmond Bridge as if giving her the last salute. The Gerald Desmond Bridge will soon be torn down at the Port of Long Beach. To get an idea of the size of this ship... Look for the silhouette of the pelican resting on the tie cable just off of the ship.
I was invited with a few other photographers to shoot the restricted areas of the Port of Long Beach and Long Beach Harbor by boat. It was a challenge to say the least; night shooting, no tripod, on a moving boat shooting boats in the water.. Here we have the container ship Densa Whale after being unloaded. Also available in Black and White.
The Port of Long Beach has 6 container terminals. The Port of Long Beach ws the first terminal to equipt shore power, allowing the ships to turn off their diesel engines and plug into electricity. this cut the pollution equivilant to 42,000 car off the So Cal Freeways daily. Middle harbor is under construction in unison with the new bridge replacing the Ge...

What a stunning image of this freighter! You've captured the light on the water and the lights on the vessel perfectly.

Fabulous photography Denise!

This is just spectacular Denise! Though I must say I hope this is the last we see of whaling ships (I understand that after a lot of refusals Japan has finally agreed to abide by some whaling bans). Fabulous photography Denise! F/L Shared
Denise Dube replied:
Thank you Lianne, This is actually an emptied freight carrier named the Densa Whale for its size. I am glad you brought it up as I can see how confusing it could be. I think there would be quite an uproar if an actual whaling ship actually dared to show up in the Long Beach Port. And Japan did "claim" to cease its operations, however there are recent photographs and videos of their whaling ships still conducting these deplorable acts.
